Upbeat Voiceover Girl

Wow, it’s been a great few months in my voiceover world. Ever since I updated my kit and bought a sexy new interface, I’ve had a new air of confidence and vigour. I’ve also been developing my vocal range and working on the business side of things with Guy Michaels from Voiceover Kickstart. I signed up for his 6 week free voiceover course, which has really motivated me to up my game. I highly recommend signing up for the course to anyone wanting to further their voiceover career. So, over the next few months, I’ll have a new website, new demos and hopefully a few new clients to work with. Here are some snippets of a handful of projects I’ve been working on this year so far.

Voiceover for British Tinnitus Association

I worked with the British Tinnitus Association on this fabulous video. They offer support for those who suffer from Tinnitus (persistent ringing or buzzing in the ears). It can be a debilitating condition. As a voiceover artist, I rely on my ears so much whilst I record and edit audio. I take it for granted that I can listen, without interruption from other noises. However, I am conscious of protecting myself and will always wear ear plugs when I go to a gig. I must be growing up!

Presenter led product videos

“When you’re climbing a mountain, sometimes it’s good to look back at how far you’ve come”. A quote from my very good friend (who obvs nicked it from someone very famous).

As I sat thinking of what I’d like to achieve this year, I was inclined to look through some of the work I’ve already done. I remember these shoots very well. The feature for SMEG was filmed on one of the hottest days of the year. We filmed it in a showroom where ALL of the fires had to be kept on for prospective customers. OMG, I was so hot. Thank the Lord for Mac Studio Fix Pressed Powder. On the flip side, the feature for Premier Range (bottom) was filmed in a Lancashire showroom in the middle of winter. There was zero heating. It may look cosy and warm but it was freezing cold. I was probably wearing Ugg Boots. I remember loving the part where I had to switch on the hob as I got a lovely blast of hot air.

All part of being a presenter. It ain’t all glam, but there definitely are worse ways to make a living.

Healthy Voiceover for the NHS

Anyone who knows me understands how important nutrition and health are to me. I didn’t take a year out to do a Nutrition MSc (and nearly explode from it) for nothing! So, when my good friend and great camera man Joe Binks asked me to voice a whiteboard animation for an NHS healthy eating initiative, I was in.

Talking of nutrition, a few months ago, I launched my own range of ‘healthy’ chocolate and other refined sugar free treats at a farmers market in Cheshire. More about my Make It Healthy brand can be found here.

Ford Fiesta Shoot

When it comes to cars, I’m a VW girl at heart. However the new Ford Fiesta is pretty impressive. I got up close and personal with the latest model doing this shoot for SMC cars in Kent. The video is for their social media and will potentially play on the ITV hub soon too. It was a great gig to do…short and sweet and I got given a car! OK, maybe the last part isn’t true but I can dream.

Getting beautified

Beauty 4 Less“. I said that phrase a fair few times across an intense but super productive video shoot with Ben Jacobson. We filmed around 50 products over 2 days. The videos have populated the website superbly and gives Beauty 4 Less even more exposure. Web video also means consumers have even more information on the item of interest and can see it in working order. Beauty 4 Less is now a market leader in the UK for online beauty products, demonstrated by their growth over the past two years. This became evident to me when we got to the shoot as their warehouse had tripled in size.

See all videos here.

In other news, I passed my MSc in Nutrition and Health with a distinction. Going back to uni to study science was a completely life enhancing (and challenging) experience. Check out Make It Healthy for a dose healthy eating inspiration and the feature (and recipe) in this months Cheshire Life magazine about my journey into the world of nutritional science…

Beachy memories

All this warm weather is making me hanker after a holiday by the beach, especially when I take a look at the beautiful places me and the crew visited on our mammoth Parkdean Holidays shoot last year…

Talking houses

Instead of waxing lyrical about yourself – get your happy customers to do it for you. This is a lovely set of videos for Bellway and a great way of showcasing the company’s success.

Something in the Mind

Raising awareness of the Mind charity, which is dedicated to helping those with mental health challenges, is close to my heart.

Anxiety and depression effect 1 in 10 people…and they are the people we know about. Many others suffer without getting help. Other disorders such as phobias, OCD and post traumatic stress are also prevalent in the UK and the more we talk about it, the easier it can be.

The fast paced, competitive world we live in has a lot to answer for. However, it is our perspective that needs to change as it doesn’t have to be seen that way. I’m a huge fan of speaking out what is in your head as it helps to release trapped thoughts which can be the start of unnecessary stress. I’m no expert but I have been through challenges myself and found becoming more open and accepting of help was a huge factor in my change in perspective and pace of life. The realisation that pretty much everyone at one time or another feels the same is also helpful. Maybe we’re more normal than we think.

It was an honour to do the voiceover for their Local Mind network campaign. Click here to listen.
